Situated in the Mekong valley in Southern I-San plateau, 583 km from Bangkok, Amnat Charoen is a small tranquil province in the Northeast of Thailand. It was established during the King Rama III's reign, was first administered by Nakhon Khemarat and later by Ubon Ratchathani. Now it becomes one of the three youngest provinces of Thailand after being upgraded from district Amnat Charoen of Ubon Ratchathani province in 1993.
Known as the land of Dharma, Amnat Charoen features a lot of natural and cultural attractions, including sacred Buddha images, beautiful Laotian-style and Lanna-style temples, fruit orchards, picturesque rice paddy fields, rocky rapids, scenic view and excellent handicrafts, Khit woven fabrics, especially silk.
Amna Charoen has become a quiet tourist destination attracting numerous visitors with some popular attractions as Phra Mongkhon Ming Muang and Phuttha Utthayan Khao Dan Phra Bat Buddhist sanctuaries, Phuttha Utthayan Reservoir offering beautiful scenery, Wat Tham Saeng Phet sanctuary located amid light & sparkling rocks, Wat Phra Lao Thep Nimit temple built with authentic Northeastern style, etc. The province also offers you the chance to explore the traditional handicrafts through the visit to Ban Kham Phra Handicraft Centre and Ban Chang Tho Royal Folk Arts and Craft Training Centre where a variety of home-made handicrafts are made by local women and many training courses on local crafts as gem cutting and weaving are offered.
